1. Know your Child’s Interest – First of all, you must understand the interest of your child. Spend time with him to know the subject that interests him the most. As children are born creative geniuses, you must give a child space to critically and creatively explore the subject. Given the freedom to study his favorite subject, he might come up with some fresh perspectives on it. Also, he will never feel bored about studying it.
2. Set Targets – Fix some study goals/targets for your child through weekly planners, & To-Do list. You may fix some short-term and long-term goals for him. But remember to set goals that are attainable. Never set too high goals or benchmarks that make the child feel pressurized as any kind of pressure might make him dislike studies rather than building his interest in it.
3. Reward him – Yes, this is very important to keep him motivated. As parents or guardians, it is very important to reward the progress of your child. Compliments and gifts not only make him happy but inspire him to achieve more. So, never hesitate to speak some words of appreciation to your child to encourage him.
4. Keep it Simple – Make sure to keep his tasks really simple. You may break various tasks in sections to make it easy for him to complete them. Also, give him sufficient time to cover all the topics and understand the concepts clearly. This will make him feel less pressurized.
5. Extra-Curricular Activities – It is very for the child to devote some time to extra-curricular or recreational activities. Let him play games, or sit for a while on a PlayStation, or simply watch his favorite cartoon. These activities will fresh his mind, and he will approach his studies with a more relaxed mind.
6. Remove all Distractions – Make sure to remove all the distractions in your child’s study space to keep him focused. A Television, PlayStation, sports items, video games might distract your child and decrease his concentration power. Therefore, it is important that the study room is free from any such things that might affect his concentration skills in an adverse way.
7. Smart Study – Smart study allows you to learn more in less time. A child must be taught to study smartly through notes, charts, and diagrams. We must teach them the relevance of the content they are studying so that they will engage themselves whole-heartedly in the learning process.
8. Keep him Inspired – To make a child develop his interest all the more in studies, it is important to inspire him. You can simply share with him the success stories of people who turned out to be the achievers in their life due to education. You may also narrate to them moral stories on the importance of education.
9. Technology always works – As children, today are seen to be so much engrossed in technological gadgets such as laptops, computers, smartphones, video games, it will be better to use this technology as a medium of teaching. You can increase your child’s interest in studies by educating him using technology through YouTube tutorials, AR books, Flashcards, Study tablets, etc.
Conclusion
To quote few lines from a poem ‘Education, The Key to Success’
“….Without skill, none can read nor write,
Nor can one a simple, mere highway signpost decipher,
Even along a road, one needs a bit of skill of blue,
‘As to identify colours from others and even directions.
Not only colours, but even information and messages as well,
One needs education to write read and decode,
Even one language from another to tell,
One needs education, to read languages many & even ‘encode’…” .By Jonathan Karanja
